Here is a new series I'm starting based on wine tasting out in the Napa Valley. I live in a very cool and unique place that is surrounded by shear beauty and good wine. So here is the first of many videos to come. Think of this as more of a travel guide through the various Napa Valley Wineries.
August Briggs - This winery has a retail space off Lincoln Ave in Calistoga, CA. It was a smaller tasting room with big windows showcasing all the hustle and bustle of the Calistoga streets. My friends ad I had the honor of trying some tasty wines poured by the owner, really fun guy had a great sense of humor. The wines were really good, it was a first time I had a Pinot Meunier which is actually the third most used varietal in the production of champagne. It definitely made for a delicious still wine. If I had to rate this place using stars, 5 stars being the highest, based on the wine, tasting room and staff. I'd say a 3 1/2 stars.
Foley Johnson - This winery had more so the traditional California style wines, big, bold and a good amount of oak. A lot of the wines were more of a Bordeaux Style, meaning they had more than one varietal blended in. They were definitely delicious! The lady I had was so sweet and fun to talk with about the history of Foley Johnson and their wines. The Tasting Room was really small, the bar was large enough to hold maybe 10 people at a time. Star rating: 2
Lava Vine - What a great experience! Such a fun time being here, definitely a small production winery, but those can be some of the best out here in the Napa Valley. Great vibes, ambiance and a hipster feel, the staff would literally bring out banjos and guitars and start playing music for all the guests drinking wine. The staff were so relaxed and super chill, they know how to make you feel right at home, answering any questions you have. I'm not the biggest fan of white wines, but they did have a really delicious Verdejo, along with that, their reds were incredible. I mean they have Pinot Noir from the Russian River Valley, Zinfandel from Mendocino County, Petite Sirah from Knights Valley and an absolutely killer Cab from Diamond Mountain. If you visit the Valley and see a Cab from Diamond Mountain or Howell Mountain, get it! It's some of the best and Lava Vine did not disappoint with their hand crafted Cab. Star Rating: 4
